Shorelines on several Saskatchewan lakes are still extremely vulnerable following significant flooding earlier this summer, the Water Security Agency is reminding boaters heading into the August long weekend.

Boat speeds should be reduced to 10 km/h within 30 metres of shore, the agency said in a media release.

“Strong wind and wave activity striking the banks can cause rapid and severe erosion, and damage to dikes and retaining walls,” the release read. “Wake impact can also churn up sediments, degrading the aquatic environment.”

Boaters should use caution along shorelines and near any temporary berms.

The lakes most affected by flooding are Last Mountain, Crooked, Round, Emma, Christopher and Good Spirit lakes, according to the WSA.
