An accidental balcony fire at a City Park apartment building caused an estimated $10,000 in damage.

Around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a fire on the second-story balcony of an apartment building at 512 Fourth Avenue N. One of the callers claimed a barbeque started the fire, and flames were reaching the third-story balcony.

Three fire engines, a ladder truck and a rescue unit were dispatched from three different fire stations.

When fire crews arrived, they found light smoke.

Some firefighters then evacuated the apartment building, while others attacked the flames from the alley behind it.

The fire was under control in approximately 20 minutes.

Officials said no one was injured in the blaze.

The Saskatoon Fire Department is reminding the public to shut off elements and burners after cooking on stoves and barbeques.
