RCMP have yet to release autopsy results for twin seven-month-old boys who died Monday on a northwest Saskatchewan First Nations reserve.

Sgt. Shawn Carter of Loon Lake RCMP said a family member called for help Monday after seven-month-old boys Isaiah Reid and Hurley Isaac were found not breathing at a home on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation at about 10:30 a.m.

"We attended the residence with the ambulance personnel there and then, once on the scene, it was determined that we should transport the infants to the health centre," Carter said Monday.

"The doctor had a look at the two infants there and pronounced the children dead."

Band chief Richard Ben said the family is devastated by the deaths, as is the reserve as a whole.

Carter said RCMP are trying to figure out what happened, but, as with all sudden deaths, investigators are treating the case as suspicious until proven otherwise.

"We're just putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, just getting all the information and that's where we're at right now in an investigation," he said.

The Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation is located near Loon Lake, about 55 kilometres west of Meadow Lake.

An autopsy was scheduled Wednesday.
