Saskatoon’s mayor will once again be missing the city’s Pride parade.
Mayor Don Atchison has never attended a Pride parade since he was elected mayor in 2003. He won’t be attending this year’s parade because of his father’s 90th birthday party.
He will attend a Pride barbecue, according to a city official, but was still asked Thursday if he supports Saskatoon’s gay community.
“We all belong to one race, and let’s not forget that, and that’s the human race,” Atchison said. “We’re all human beings and we’re all entitled to what type of lifestyle we wish to have.”
The Saskatoon Pride Festival runs June 3 to June 12, with the parade landing on Saturday, June 11.
