Former MP Jim Pankiw has had his drunk driving conviction overturned by the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal.
A three-judge panel ruled this week Pankiw’s right to be tried in a reasonable amount of time was violated.
Pankiw was charged with drunk driving in July 2011. His trial was delayed numerous times because his lawyers weren’t provided the disclosure they had been asking for, and he finally went to trial in October 2013.
He was found guilty in January the following year.
He lost a provincial court appeal and a Queen’s Bench court appeal before applying to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal.
