Flags were at half-mast at the Agrium Potash mine after a 25-year-old died working on the site Saturday.

Agrium said the man who died was a construction worker with an independent contractor who was hired to help build the expansion at the mine.

"A worker for PCL energy working on our expansion project was involved in a major incident and passed away on route to hospital. Initial details of the incident are that he fell from scaffolding,” Agrium Mine Manager, Andrew Steen, said.

Out of respect for the tragedy and the safety of their employees, Agrium closed the mine on Saturday.

RCMP and Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety are investigating the sudden death. Agrium will also be conducting an investigation.

"PCL reps, along with JVV and Agrium construction reps will perform an investigation as well. In fact they are alongside the Saskatchewan mine inspectors as we speak,” Steen said.

RCMP said the name of the deceased will not be released at this time.
